Department of Pharmacy
The Pharmacy Department provides 24 hr/7 day per week service and is staffed by 35 pharmacists and 40 technicians and support personnel. A block staffing model ensures continuity and provides for a balance of clinical and distributive professional roles. The pharmacy facilitates centralized unit dose drug distribution and IV admixture utilizing state of the art technology and robotics. Advanced and innovative clinical services are offered to inpatients and outpatients including; pharmacokinetic consultation, drug information consultation, glycemic control, emergency response teams (code blue, rapid response, trauma), inpatient and outpatient anticoagulation management services, and terminal symptom management through hospice prescriptive authority. Pharmacists are also involved in hospital and medical staff education, committee participation, protocol and order set development, medication utilization evaluation (MUE), adverse reaction monitoring and reporting, quality assurance (QA) and competency assessment.
